Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, establishing Pixar as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Gang

The preview shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The last thing Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
